Apex Ranch Renovation
Project Overview:
This home was a 1990s brick ranch located in Apex, North Carolina that my husband and I purchased in 2017. What we originally thought would be our forever home became a seven-year renovation completed thoughtfully in phases, evolving alongside our growing family.
This project holds a special place in my story, as it is where my love for renovation, planning, and livable design truly began.
Design Intent:
The goal was never to completely reinvent the home, but rather to work within its existing layout and architecture while improving flow, function, and warmth. We wanted the house to feel timeless, comfortable, and personal, a home that could grow with us and support everyday family life.
Each renovation phase was approached intentionally, allowing design decisions to build on one another rather than feel rushed or disconnected.
My Approach:
Because this renovation unfolded over several years, thoughtful planning was essential. Living in the home throughout the process offered invaluable insight into how spaces were actually used, which guided each design decision.
The approach focused on:
Improving space planning and flow while respecting the original footprint
Layering timeless materials with warm, livable finishes
Creating functional spaces that still felt elevated and personal
Making design decisions with long-term livability in mind
Rather than following trends, the design evolved naturally, resulting in spaces that feel cohesive, comfortable, and enduring.
Before + After:
The Result:
The finished home reflects years of intentional updates shaped by real life. It became a place filled with warmth, character, and meaning, a home where we brought both of our children home, gathered with family and friends, and created memories we will always cherish.
This project not only shaped our home but also shaped the foundation of Ruby Peach Design and my approach to creating spaces that are meant to be lived in.
